Emma McKeon has shrugged off her disappointment from last night to take the bronze medal in the 200 metres freestyle at Rio.
She made a brave decision to take it out fast and let the great Katie Ledecky and others catch her. It was a great move and she can be very proud of her efforts, up against one of the US greats in the pool.
Madeline Groves also employed the same tactic in the second semi-final of the 200 metres butterfly, with similar success – in fact she took it to the wall first! This was such a prodigious effort after a disappointing heat swim. She showed that her reputation as the fastest in the world this year over this distance is well earned. Brianna Throssell also performed very well in the other semi-final to make it to the final tomorrow.
