Australia’s foremost female cyclist, Anna Meares, has experienced highs and lows on the first two days of the UCI Track World Championships in Melbourne.
On the first night of the competition, she and her teammate Kaarle Mc Culloch, relinquished their world title in the Team Sprint to Germany. The Aussie team had been world champions for the last three years. However, even in defeat, the team rode a personal best time, bettering the previous world record, and paid tribute to the enthusiastic home crowd cheering them on.
Yet, any disappointment for Anna was short-lived when she posted a new world time in the qualifying heats of the individual spr. In front of her cheering family and friends, she cycled to a new time of 10.782 seconds, taking eleven thousandths of a second off the previous world mark.
All eyes will be on her in the Final.
