The only way swimmers Katja Dedekind and Tiffany Thomas Kane would
be competing against each other at the Rio Paralympics is by age. They are both members of our swimming team and both 15 but Katja sneaks in by a mere few days to be our youngest competitor. On all other measures the girls will be part of an enthusiastic swimming team hoping for great things at Rio. Paige Leonhardt who is just one year older, joins them on the team. They are all engaged in multiple events at the Paralympics that starts on September 7. Swimming will be the Paralympic sport with the second highest number of athletes at the Rio 2016 Games, behind only athletics. The sport has been part of the Games program since Rome in 1960. In Rio there are 151 medals on offer in four strokes for men, women and relays.
We will be cheering all the way for Katja, Tiffany and Paige over the next couple of weeks, along with the rest of our team.
