sportstar.com was invited to attend the launch of women’s health magazine’s ‘I support women in sport’ campaign launched by the Governor General Quentin Bryce last night. It was a great night held at the SCG with Liz Ellis as MC, and Mark Arbib the Minister for Sport, who pledged the Federal Government’s support for the 10 month long campaign.

sportstar.com was on the red carpet with many of our female sports women who were there to pledge their support to more positive female role models and to highlight the many successes of our women sportstars in particular those that we rarely hear about.
One of the objectives is to have 100,000 more women participating in sport, as well as celebrating the successes of our own female athletes, and getting them more recognition and media coverage. Our regular readers would know that sportstar.com is working towards the same goals.
A couple of facts mentioned in the February issue of Women’s Health Magazine
- Organisers at London 2012’s Olympics have priced tickets to women’s events well below the cost of their male counterparts – with some selling for less than half price
- At 10 years of age, 64.4 percent of girls play organised sport; by age 35, its a less impressive 12.8%.
- Women make up just nine per cent of all sports coverage in Australian television news and current affairs.
